The Barclays Singapore Open 2009 is the richest tournament in asia and features top players like Phil Mickelson, Ernie  Els, Padraig Harrington, Geoff Ogilvy, Darren Clarke, Thongchai Jaidee, Choi Kyung Ju, Shigeki Maruyama and Graeme Mcdowell.

The Barclays Singapore Open 2009 tee-off date will be from Oct 29 to Nov 1, at Serapong Course, Sentosa Golf club, Singapore. The prize money stands at US$5 Million and the winning purse at US$833,000 with Barclays bank as the main sponsor of the entire tournament.

The starting field includes 156 golfers from both the European and Asian tours with a format of 72 holes over 4 rounds, cut-off after 36 holes.

Due to the annoyance of what the mobile phones and cameras can produce, the golf course has implemented a rule that all such gadgets will be not permitted on the golf course. But how are the organisations able to enforce these this rule? Are they going to do a full body check?

With as much as 156 Professional Golfers on the field, Who Are You Going To Watch? There are 2 professional golfers you should look out for.

Phil Mickelson widely known as Lefty is not new to the Barclays Singapore Open 2009 tournament and this will be his 3rd appearance in Sentosa golf course. Mickelson had a great year but have to take some time off to take care of his wife and mother who are both affected with breast cancer.

Once known as “the best golfer never to win a Major”, he proves the critics wrong when he won his first Major, the US Masters in 2004, although it came some 20 years after he turned pro. Sometimes, even the pro needs to be persistence and have the stamina to win the big one.

The strange thing about Phil Mickelson is that although he is a leftie when playing golf, he is a right-hander in all things that he does.

Padraig Harrington used to be sitting in a small office in Dublin doing his accountant job. Because of his passion in the little white ball, he decided that golf is something that he wants to go for early in his life.

Padraig Harrington has been doing well and been improving in the golf’s ladder in the past few years, achieving a number of “firsts” in the process.

He was the first European to win back-to-back Majors in 2008, when he won the 2008 US PGA Championship in the British Open. He was also the first European since 1906 to defend the British Open title.

Harrington tied for second with Ernie Els, with just a stroke behind Jeev Milkha Singh in the last year Barclays Singapore Open 2009.
